The 10 Vicious Circles at Work: Detecting and Breaking Them Up
A vicious circle (or cycle) is a complex chain of events that reinforces itself through a feedback loop, with harmful results. They can be happening today, anywhere at your company, creating friction, misalignment, bottlenecks, and even making the best employees quit. In the last ten years working as an agile coach and scrum master in several types of companies and departments, I detected 10 very common vicious circles that were happening again and again across these different places. And that can be a true pain in the ̶a̶s̶s̶ neck. (And you might be in one of these loops without even knowing). Let’s explore the 10 vicious circles together, understand them and discuss how to break them up.
Key takeaways…
- Be aware and know how to detect 10 different vicious circles at work. - Understand the impact that each one of them has on people, products and processes. - Learn useful tips, practices, and tools that can be used the next day to break these vicious circles. - Take the visuals I’ve presented to work to discuss with colleagues and generate insights. - Feel empowered, energized, and inspired, because the talk has a great pace and a good dose of humor.
