2017 Programme and Speakers Announced

We are delighted to announce our 2017 Programme.

We are also excited to confirm Dan North, originator of BDD and James Lewis, Principal Consultant at Thoughtworks will be delivering an exclusive double act keynote at Agile on the Beach this year especially for us!

Dan and James will be joining Diana Larsen and James Grenning as keynote speakers for 2017, and we are pleased to confirm 48 speakers.  Speakers will be joining us from across the world including the USA, Russia, Israel, Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, Poland and Romania, as well as local Cornish speakers and agile enthusiasts from across the UK.

Speakers will come from an array of businesses from local, national and global organisations including local agile developers Headforwards and Bluefruit, as well as locally born Steve Smith globally known for his development of Continous Delivery practices.   National organisations including the Agile Business Consortium are sponsoring our Busness track, along with speakers and sponsors from agile Equal Experts and JetBrains.  We are also delighted to welcome speakers from global mulitnational organisations including Thoughtworks, Unruly, Barclays and the Guardian.

Our programme will focus on 4 agile themes Software Delivery, Teams, Product and Business, with our bonus track offering extra hands on double workshops and extra seminars.

Early bird tickets are on sale and selling fast as teams and individuals secure their places for July.  A 10% discount is available on group bookings of 5 or more, accommodation is available to book on campus, and there are a small number of tickets to the Retrospective Boat Party on Friday evening remaining.

We are also delighted to confirm a pre-conference Day of Deliberate Practice will be held on the 5th July hosted by the brilliant Kevlin Henney and Jon Jagger, limited spaces are available for this extra workshop so do book soon to secure your place for just £225 per person.

2016 Speaker Selection Panel

We are currently reviewing submissions for our 2017 conference, we have received 353 submissions, which will be reviewed by our panel and selected for our line up which we will announce in full by April.

We are pleased to welcome 3 Guest Revewers to assist the committee in selecting our line up this year.

Sarah Fairbairn – Sarah is Product Discovery Manager at Lumira DX (formally SCSLhealth).  Sarah has 16 years experience in software as a developer, analyst, team lead and architect.  However, in the past couple of years has moved into product design and management in the exciting field of health and medical software.  Sarah leads a product discovery team tasked with creating products that enable people with long term health conditions to live longer healthier lives.

Jim Barritt – Jim works for Thoughtworks and lives in Cornwall.  He has been a part of Agile of the Beach since its inception in 2011 and has been a regular speaker and attendee.  Jim has a great breadth and depth of knowledge of Agile Software Delivery.

Steve Smith -Steve Smith is a Continuous Delivery consultant at Always Agile Consulting Ltd. Steve has been helping organisations adopt Continuous Delivery since 2007.  He is the author of “Measuring Continuous Delivery” and co-author of “Build Quality In”.  Steve is Cornish and has attended as many AOTBs since its inception. He is a big believer in growing the IT industry in Cornwall.  Tracks: Agile Practices, Software Delivery

Byran Wills-Heath – Byran is lead developer at Bluefrit Software in Redruth.  He has regularly attended Agile on the Beach and spoken on a number of occasions too.

Sarah, Jim and Steve and Byran join Allan Kelly, Belinda Waldock, Toby Parkins, Mark Smith and Claire Eason-Bassett this year to help broaden the selection panel.

James Grenning to keynote Agile on the Beach 2017

We are delighted to confirm James Grenning will be joining us from Chicago to keynote Agile on the Beach 2017.

James Grenning trains, coaches and consults worldwide. James’ mission is to bring modern technical and management practices to product development teams, especially embedded systems development teams.

He is the author of Test-Driven Development for Embedded C ( He is a co-author of CppUTest, a popular unit test harness for embedded C and C++.

James invented Planning Poker, an estimating technique used around the world, and participated in the creation of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development.

Season’s greetings! Diana Larsen confirmed to speak at Agile on the Beach 2017

Season’s Greetings!
To celebrate we are delighted to announce our first, exceptional keynote speaker for agile teams and business in 2017, Ms Diana Larsen.

We will be announcing our second and equally brilliant technical keynote from Chicago in the New Year, as well as an exciting final keynote to close our conference, and a unique and amazing double act formed especially for Agile on the Beach.

Submissions are strong for our remaining line up which will be selected in February and confirmed in March.  2017 looks to be another strong year for agile working in Software, Business, Products and Teams, and we look forward to seeing you on the beach in July!

We are delighted to confirm Diana Larsen will be joining us from Portland, Oregon, USA to keynote at Agile on the Beach 2017.

Internationally known for her brilliant work in agile software development, team leadership and agile transitions we are excited to hear Diana share her insights in July.

Diana has a fantastic breadth and depth of experience working with business leaders and their teams to create work environments where people flourish and push businesses to succeed.

Diana is author of Agile Retrospectives: Making Good Teams Great; Liftoff: Start and Sustain Successful Agile Teams; Five Rules for Accelerated Learning; and co-originator of the Agile Fluency™ model. As a founding partner of FutureWorks Consulting, she leads the practice area for Agile software development, team leadership, and Agile transitions.

For more than 20 years she’s worked with leaders to design work systems, improve project performance, and support leader and enterprise agility. An active speaker and contributor to her professional community, Ms Larsen has contributed as a leader with Agile Alliance, Organization Design Forum, and the Agile Open Initiative.

New event website launched for Agile on the Beach 2017

For our 2017 event we are delighted to launch our new website at

With our new event focused site we aim to provide a better experience for our delegates attending.  The new site features easier online booking facilities, an online community to connect with other attending, as well as a full app enabling delegates to review conference sessions and schedule their own personal schedule.  On the day the app offers online check in and direct comms with our team as well as additional information to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

The new site and app also offers greater engagement for our sponsors and speakers and give us feedback and statistics that will enable us to continuously deliver and improve our conference for you.

Our existing site here under our .com address will remain active becoming an archive of resources from previous events including videos, slides, articles and other media as part of our commitment to support the growing global agile community.

Students challenge perspectives of Cornish tech sector at Agile on the Beach

Agile on the Beach were delighted to display Falmouth Students work at this years conference who have been working on a project to challenge the perspectives of the tech sector here in Cornwall.

The work is the outcome of a collaboration project between Software Cornwall and Level 2 Falmouth University BA(Hons) Graphic Design students to brand and promote Cornwall as the UK’s Silicon Valley

The short video provides an array of the work produced by students as part of their degree course as a collection of initial ideas for branding and advertising, challenging perceptions of the sector and identifying innovative and distruptive ways to help raise the awareness and image of the growing and diverse tech community in Cornwall.
